Créé en 2016, Quercus est un atelier d’architecture paysagère basé à LEVENS dans l’arrière-pays niçois. L’agence intervient dans le domaine du paysage, à différentes échelles de territoire aussi bien pour des Maîtres d’Ouvrages publics que privés, dans les Alpes Maritimes et le Var. Au fil des années, le parcours de Thomas Gonella, Paysagiste DPLG, co-fondateur de la structure, a amené l’Atelier à travailler sur des projets à consonance agricole, rurale et montagnarde, en milieu naturel, protégé et classé, ainsi qu’en milieu urbain et sur le littoral (notamment en tant que Paysagiste Conseil de la ville d’Antibes). Quercus a ainsi développé une forte expérience dans les sites sensibles, en collaboration régulière avec les Bâtiments de France, la DRAC, la DDTM et la DREAL.
Soucieux de placer la question du paysage au centre des projets abordés, la démarche nous amène à ne pas laisser de côté certaines problématiques, afin que chaque initiative privée et publique s’inscrive dans une vision durable. La démarche de Quercus repose sur une mise en lien constante des échelles de territoires, des usages, de l’héritage des lieux, avec les enjeux sociétaux et climatiques contemporains. Quercus aspire à une utilisation raisonnée de l’espace et des ressources, en tenant compte du milieu, du climat, en adaptant les palettes végétales, en cherchant des matériaux locaux et en favorisant le travail des artisans. Enfin, l’économie d’espace passe par la recherche d’une adaptabilité des usages et d’une polyvalence des lieux. La démarche de projet tiendra compte tout autant de ses enjeux spécifiques que des enjeux climatiques et sociétaux actuels, afin de définir un projet paysager cohérent et inscrit dans son territoire.
Created in 2016, Quercus is a landscape architecture workshop located in LEVENS, in the back country of Nice. The agency intervenes in the landscape domain, at different scales of the territory both for public and private project owners, in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Var. As time went by, the path of Thomas Gonella, DPLG landscape architect (certified by the government), co-funder of the structure, has brought the atelier to work on agricultural, rural and mountaineer sounding projects, in natural, protected and classified environments as well as in urban areas and on the coastline (especially as being Landscape Consultant for the city of Antibes). Quercus thus developed a strong experience in sensitive sites, in regular collaboration with the “Bâtiments de France”, the DRAC (Ministry of Culture, regional division Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur), the DDTM (Departmental administration for land and sea management, balance and development) and the DREAL (Regional administration for environment, planning and housing).
Careful about putting the landscape question in the center of the discussed projects, this approach brings us to not put certain problematics to the side, in order to each private and public initiative to register in a durable vision. The approach of Quercus is based on a constant link between the territorial scale, the uses, the legacy of the places, with the societal and climatic contemporary issues. Quercus aspire to a reasonable use of space and resources, by taking into account the environment, the climate, by adapting the vegetation palettes, by looking for local materials and encouraging the work of local craftsmen. Finally, to save space we need to look for the adaptability to different uses and the versatility of the places. The project approach will take into account both as importantly its specific issues as well as its current climatic and societal issues, in order to define a coherent landscaping project which is keeping in touch with its local context.
